WikiCamps/Code of Conduct
General Provisions
Wikimedia Georgia’s WikiCamp is a short-term training course for learning Wikimedia projects, during which volunteer editors and other interested persons intensively study how to work on Wikimedia projects over several days. WikiCamp is a unique resource for acquiring the skills necessary to work on Wikimedia projects.
In addition to learning about Wikimedia projects, WikiCamp is also a social environment. Accordingly, Wikimedia Georgia strives to create a safe, friendly, and inclusive environment for everyone, so that their experience is as good as possible.
Based on the above, Wikimedia Georgia is implementing the present Code of Conduct for everyone participating in a WikiCamp organized and funded by Wikimedia Georgia. Compliance with this Code of Conduct is mandatory for all persons, without exception. Violation of the Code of Conduct will result in appropriate responsibility and sanctions by Wikimedia Georgia.
Respect
WikiCamp participants must treat all camp participants with equal respect, including, but not limited to, direct camp participants, representatives of Wikimedia Georgia, service staff, and other persons, regardless of their professional skills or personal characteristics. They must respect the opinions of camp participants and other persons and create all conditions for them to freely express their ideas and views.
All camp participants, except representatives of Wikimedia Georgia, are required to:
1.1. Speak kindly and respectfully with camp participants, Wikimedia Georgia representatives, service staff, and guests;
1.2. Do not use insulting words or mockery;
1.3. Respect different cultures, religions, and personal preferences;
1.4. Not participate in bullying, harassment, or exclusion. Such cases must be promptly reported to Wikimedia Georgia representatives.
Participants’ Obligations
All WikiCamp participants, regardless of their role, are obliged to take into account and follow the instructions and requests of Wikimedia Georgia representatives. Failure to comply or acting without permission will result in appropriate sanctions by Wikimedia Georgia.
All camp participants, except representatives of Wikimedia Georgia, are obliged to:
2.1. Always listen to and follow the instructions of camp leaders and Wikimedia Georgia representatives;
2.2. Remain within the area designated by Wikimedia Georgia for the WikiCamp — hotel, conference space, or other area — unless they have permission to leave or are accompanied by a Wikimedia Georgia representative;
2.3. Do not enter restricted areas without permission;
2.4. In case of doubt regarding any activity or instruction, ask for clarification;
2.5. Be responsible for their actions. Acknowledge mistakes and try to correct them;
2.6. Pay attention to their personal belongings;
2.7. Try to include others in conversations and activities;
2.8. Avoid creating exclusive groups that make others feel excluded;
2.9. Arrive on time for all activities, meals, and meetings. Respect the WikiCamp schedule;
2.10. If a participant cannot take part due to illness or another valid reason, they must inform a Wikimedia Georgia representative in advance. Absence or non-participation in any activity must be confirmed by a Wikimedia Georgia representative;
2.11. Treat the camp infrastructure, equipment, and shared spaces with care;
2.12. Maintain cleanliness in their living space and common areas;
2.13. Respect other people’s personal space and belongings;
2.14. Follow any other instructions and requirements established by a Wikimedia Georgia representative outside this Code of Conduct.
Prohibited Conduct
If a participant of Wikimedia Georgia’s WikiCamp violates any one of the provisions listed below, Wikimedia Georgia representatives have the right to impose an appropriate restrictive sanction against the violator.
For all participants of Wikimedia Georgia’s WikiCamp, except representatives of Wikimedia Georgia, it is prohibited to:
3.1. Enter the personal space or living room of WikiCamp participants. It is prohibited for another camp participant or any other person — except hotel or other service staff and Wikimedia Georgia representatives — to enter during any period of the day or night. Any group interaction or activity must take place only in public, shared, or academic spaces;
3.2. After the end of the working day and after the established time for participants to go to their bedrooms, it is prohibited for a participant to visit another participant’s bedroom or to leave their own bedroom without permission;
3.3. Leave the territory designated by Wikimedia Georgia for the WikiCamp;
3.4. Fail to participate in WikiCamp activities, including trainings and educational sessions;
3.5. Take photos, videos, or audio recordings without the consent of others and/or Wikimedia Georgia representatives;
3.6. Use insulting or inappropriate material/words in social media posts directed at camp participants;
3.7. Consume or use alcohol, tobacco, energy drinks, or other harmful substances;
3.8. Engage in physical or non-physical conflicts, risky games, or jokes;
3.9. Use obscene language;
3.10. Engage in any other behavior or action not specified in this Code of Conduct that is additionally prohibited by a Wikimedia Georgia representative.
Sanctions and Restrictions
The administration of Wikimedia Georgia has the right to impose the following appropriate sanctions against a person who violates the rules listed above:
- Minor violations will result in a verbal warning.
- Repeated or serious violations may result in informing parents/guardians and/or requiring the participant to leave the camp.
- Violation of clauses 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.7, and 3.8 will result in the participant’s immediate expulsion from the camp.
The final decision to expel a participant from Wikimedia Georgia’s WikiCamp is made by the Executive Director of Wikimedia Georgia, based on information received from Wikimedia Georgia representatives present at the WikiCamp.
Final Provision
In case of inconsistency between this Code of Conduct and the Charter/Bylaws of Wikimedia Georgia, the Charter/Bylaws shall prevail.
The right to amend the current policy belongs to the Board of Trustees and the administration of Wikimedia Georgia.
