Wikimedia Georgia Strategic Plan/2024-2026/Background
Since 2016, Wikimedia UG Georgia volunteers have been actively trying to develop Wikimedia projects in the Georgian language and build a sustainable Wikimedia community locally. After 2019, when Wikimedia UG Georgia registered as a non-profit organization in Georgia, everything became formal. A team of volunteers began to work more actively to promote the Wikimedia Movement locally with their programs and projects in cooperation with various partners.
Since 2020, Wikimedia UG Georgia has been receiving annual budgets from the Wikimedia Foundation, which helps the affiliate implement its plans, programs, and projects to develop Wikimedia projects in the local Wikimedia community. With the help of financial assistance from the Foundation, Wikimedia UG Georgia was able to implement programs such as content gap, advocacy, and partnerships with government and non-government organizations. Also, it increased the number of local community volunteers by developing it.
Today, Wikimedia UG Georgia is actively trying to develop and improve its programs and projects and expand its capabilities to the maximum. The organization in this frame will be reorganized from User Group to chapter. We expect the organization to receive chapter status by the end of this year, 2024.
